Convert VMWare VM's to Azure VM's

makecert -sky exchange -r -n "CN=last.first@company.com" -pe -a sha1 -len 2048 -ss My "certificate.cer"

The above command will create a cert with a private key (marked as exportable) and install it the users certificate store. (Under Personal —> Certificates)

  • Open MMC.exe as administrator, choose add-remove snap-in and choose Certificates.
  • Navigate to Personal —> Certificates and choose the newly created cert
  • Choose All Tasks —> Export and select "No, do not export the private key"
  • Choose "DER encoded binary X.509 (.cer)"
  • Choose a location to export the file to
  • In the MMC Console, choose "Trusted Root Certification Authorities —> Certificates"
  • Choose All Tasks —> Import and choose the exported certificate (the one without the private key)
  • Upload the Cert to Azure using the portal (Settings —> Management Certificates)
